And a similar opportunity Lab & Clinic got to participate was in a Train the Trainer event organized by Committed Communities Development Trust (CCDT) on Maternal and Child Health for Project Officers, Social Workers and Community Organizers for Sahyog Project implemented at Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

It was held on Sunday, 23rd June 2019 at Golden Valley Resort, Thane.

In the training, Dr. Rajesh Kewalramani covered various Women’s Health related topics like Early Marriage, Early Pregnancy, Unprotected Sex and STI.

Commenting on the workshop, Dr. Kewalramani said, “It was an interactive session that comprised of educational videos, some latest statistics and data on the prevalence of certain concerns that woman and society as a whole witness, and a few games to encourage team participation with strong focus on the time constraint. Change is inevitable and constant. A change in attitude can create a lot of difference, good difference, in the population, the society and the world. A small change can create a big difference.” He further added, “At Lab & Clinic we believe Health is Happiness and that Healthy Youth makes Healthy Nation.”

Indeed #HealthIsHappiness.

Some glimpses from the event…

STI: A Crisis That Can Be Contained?

In a country like ours, one of the biggest taboos still revolves around ‘Premarital Sex’. And so, a major section of the society chooses to believe that ignorance is bliss and never wants to discuss it.

Turns out, turning a blind eye doesn’t solve the issue, and not talking about it has some serious repercussions.

While most of us are completely against discussing the most natural human instinct, the youth in the country is suffering the most as a result. How? The lack of awareness on sexual education has led to an increase in the prevalence of many STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections), including HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus).

Due to lack of knowledge or insufficient understanding or wrong information, most of the youth do not practice safe sex, exposing themselves to the wide range of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs).  And, another reason why these diseases/infections go undetected is because most of the STDs/STIs are symptomless; so it is very difficult to convince the youth about the risk they might be facing. If in case, there are any symptoms, they vary from person to person or may occur long time after the exposure, and thus, can be easily neglected at an early stage.

However, following a few simple steps, can protect one from STIs. There are majorly two things that one should be aware of for the prevention on STD/Is.

Use Protection
The first and foremost rule for any sexually active individual is to never underestimate the use of condoms. It is the best way to keep many STD/Is (and unwanted pregnancies) at bay.

Get A Routine Health Screening Done
The second most important step is to get a routine health check done by an expert. This will help in identifying the infection (or pregnancy) early on (acquired knowingly/unknowingly) and will help in benefiting from correct precautions and/or treatment on time.

Right information can help you live a full and a quality life.

It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Be Safe. Be Happy.

Built Environment. Build Health.

Look around…observe the surroundings…what do you see?

Continuous development, better roads, great townships, best connectivity, easy commute—an excellent Built Environment.

Built Environment or Built World refers to the human-made surroundings in which people live, work, and recreate on a day-to-day basis that provide the setting for human activity, ranging in scale from buildings to parks.

The infrastructure that makes up our community is designed in such a way that it can provide all the convenience so that we can live our lives as comfortable as possible. Even though we are absolutely accustomed to the ease it brings, it would be unfair to completely ignore the banes.

But we are spending more time within four walls – home or office – making us the Indoor Generation. We may believe that our quality of life has improved, substantial research would argue otherwise. Confined indoors, without enough daylight and fresh air, we are happy to be lost in the virtual world. And though we may choose to ignore the consequences, the reality stays as it is.

World over, there are increasing rates of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), such as heart disease, cancer and diabetes.  Much of this is due to lifestyle choices we make and the built environment we stay in. The negative impact also includes mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression, among other concerns.

With a plethora of healthcare problems we are surrounded by, it is would be advisable to take adequate preventive measures like right diet, regular exercise or enough physical activity in the form of sports, wise lifestyle choices, routine health checks, pollution prevention and prevention from pollution, adequate rest and a good-night’s sleep.

It is important that we give the real world as much importance as the virtual world.

It is essential that we push ourselves to step out of our comfort zones if we want to lead a healthy life.

So now, let’s Build Health.

Sharing is caring, is it?

You can share your happiness…
You can share your sorrows…
You can share all the love in the world with each other.

However, you can also share infections, should you?

The chemistry between you and your partner must be great and the bond that you two share must be exceptional, but still there is no assurance that you can lead a happy and healthy life if you are being careless.

There are multiple factors that influence your total well being.

One major factor includes the happy intimacy that you share with your significant other. With the prevailing infections surrounding the two of you, it is almost impossible to be sure if you are completely safe.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are common world over. Bacteria, viruses or parasites are the common causes of STIs. You may think that you are not at risk of getting one. Well, that’s where you are wrong. Anybody, who is sexually active, is under the risk of getting an STI if they do not practice safe sex.

The bigger issue is that the STIs don’t always come with a warning, most of the times they show up announced and create trouble in paradise. From no symptoms, to symptoms that may vary like unusual discharge, sores and lumps, in most cases it usually comes as a shock.

When it comes to health, ignorance is not bliss and it can turn your life completely upside down.

The only way to stay safe and healthy is to get yourself and your partner checked regularly to rule out all the risk factors. After all, only a healthy couple is a happy couple.

Healthy Youth makes a Healthy Nation

Healthy Youth, Healthy Nation
Dr. Kewal’s Lab & Clinic introduces Youth Clinic

Questions from some 20 plus young adults…
“If smoking is bad, is it fine to smoke weed?”
“What is the ideal quantity of alcohol that would be healthy?”
“Can IUD prevent STI?
And many more questions in the young curious minds with many answers from the Internet, but still a confusion if the answers are right.
How do we address these whats, whys, ifs and buts?

Mumbai, Maharashtra – With the continuous advancement in the technology available at affordable prices, the number of the Internet Users in India will rise in the near future, especially in the younger age groups. It is a known fact that India has the world’s largest youth population. However, with youth comes a new set of health concerns ranging from lifestyle disorders to untreatable STIs.

With an aim ‘Healthy Youth, Healthy Nation’, Lab & Clinic a brand owned by Dr. Rajesh Kewalramani (Dr. Kewal) introduces Youth Clinic – a program that focuses on creating awareness and managing various health concerns in the adolescent and young adults.

Dr. Kewal’s Youth Clinic now reaches the youth of the city through Health Conversations in colleges and university campuses—the year started with a session at Xavier’s Institute of Communication, Fort – Mumbai on Tuesday, 8th January 2019, continues with an engaging session at IIM Indore Mumbai Campus today, and will go on until its voice echoes in every youth of the country.

On why creating awareness among the youth is necessary despite the exposure to the new age media, Dr. Kewal says, “Today, we are all digitally connected. Every day, we search, read and share information online. But how much of the information that we are reading is accurate? And even if it is accurate, is it apt for the individual? Case Taking and Clinical Examination are two crucial elements before a doctor comes to a diagnosis. Reading online information could lead to self diagnosis and self medication – both of which are harmful for the health of an individual.”

Furthermore, he adds, “When it comes to sexual health, being ambiguous may lead to misunderstandings that can be detrimental in the long run. There is a need to address some genuine concerns of the young curious minds. One misstep can lead to a big fall, a fall from which an individual may not recover. Some STIs like HIV yet do not have a cure. Considering the changing lifestyle patterns and approach to life, it is important to make our youth aware on the right choices.”

Indeed, Healthy Youth makes a Healthy Nation, and this year Dr. Kewal’s Youth Clinic has started to work on its mission to take care of the health of the future of our nation.
